When we were doing flagging and timber cruising during these days, I learned how to identify common tree species and how to measure and figure out what products can be made from the trees. We also learned how to use the website they use to store the data we collected, as well as learning stand strata; H and S mean hard and soft respectively, 1-4 stand for the size of the tree and, A, B, C, D are the amount of shade/light coming through the canopy respectively. For example, a plot that’s labeled H2c would be entirely hard wood that’s kind of small and has a good amount of light coming through.
