Our crew has accomplished a lot this week. At the start of the week on Tuesday, we went to the Tribal Farm to help build a bridge in a swampy part of the trail around the farm. The next day, we headed back to the farm to help build another bridge on the parallel side of the trail, across a deep 3-4 foot gap in the trail. After constructing that bridge, we did some more trail maintenance around the area. On Thursday, we went back to the farm for the last time and just helped Maria, who runs the farm, clean up around the place. Gabe made a trail with the brush saw, me and Kaden cleared brush at one of the bridges we helped build, and Nora and Kat gardened and helped around the farm. On the last day, Friday, we headed to Mattamiscontis to dig a long drainage ditch to prevent washouts.

From Tuesday to Thursday, we’ve been at the Tribal Farm doing a variety of activities. On Tuesday, we replaced an old bridge on the trails, and did some trail work lopping branches. The next day, we went out onto the trail and built a new bridge over a gap to make it easier to get across, and additional trail work raking leaves and cutting more branches. Thursday, we took on different tasks. I was assigned to water raspberry bushes, then cut the tips off of chamomile flowers that would be prepared for tea later on. We then all came together to help plant stuff in the garden. Today, we dug out a trench at a previous site we worked at. While it wasn’t as hot as it was last week, it was still a challenge dealing with the weather, environmental obstacles, and the abundance of ticks. We managed to push through either way as a crew.

This week we did a lot of work at the farm we built two bridges as well as clearing a lot of Foliage around the trail and the big bridge and raked We also cleared out an overgrown area and brought wheelbarrows full of the foliage to the compost pile we also helped water raspberries and built an oscillating fan and harvested some chamomile and did some planting pumpkins and tomato’s at the farm and on Friday we went and dug the trench and spread a bunch of grass and wild flower seeds around and laid hay over a part of them on top of that me and Keith cleared out a bunch of foliage around the bog bridge we first cleared one side then we cleared the other meaning we took out tools and we loped a lot of smaller tree and sticks and took those trees and sticks and made I pile of trees and sticks and then we raked the ground and put that also in the pile then we went to the opposite side of the bog bridge and loped down the smaller trees as well as sticks and other foliage and took those sticks trees and other foliage and out then in a pile with the rest of the trees sticks and foliage

On the days of this week, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, we helped build foot bridges for the Penobscot Nation Tribal Farm, we also did some trail maintenance and helped out with whatever was needed for the last day. For today we Went to Mattamiscontis and put down grass seed, hay, and dug out a trench to reroute the rain. This week has definitely been a labor intensive week, but I’m not complaining. This is the type of work I’d rather do than sit in front of a computer all day, no offense to those who do.
