FSA Reflections: New River Gorge – Week 3

August 11, 2025

Written by Rachel Burkholder

For most of my life, I’ve seen nature as a beautiful backdrop, I admire it, and move on. However, working with The Forest Steward Guild, I learned to slow down and take a deep dive into how every living thing has an impact and a purpose. Being able to do a job where I can step away from the chaos of the spinning world around me and embrace the natural world, from every squirrel that crosses my path to the bright mushrooms that pop up. I’ve learned so much that I will never be able to learn within the pages of a textbook. I am so thankful to have this opportunity to slow down in my life and truly appreciate all the beauty in the world.
