Forestry for the Birds Field Tour at Bird Alliance of Oregon

Friday, October 2, 2026

Bird Alliance of Oregon Wildlife Sanctuary

Join us the morning of Friday, October 2, at the Bird Alliance of Oregon Wildlife Sanctuary for our Forestry for the Birds field tour. This event will bring together landowners, land managers, and bird enthusiasts to explore practical ways to enhance bird habitat in Oregon’s forests.

Joe Liebezeit, expert birder from Bird Alliance of Oregon, and Jake Barker, OSU Extension Forester, will guide discussions on bird-friendly forest management. We will walk through the Forestry for the Birds Western Oregon Guide (included with the $10 registration fee), applying its principles to the sanctuary’s landscape.

This workshop is designed for a range of participants, including landowners, HOA and community managers, park stewards, foresters, and natural resource professionals. Key topics will include:

  • Identifying and assessing bird habitat in various forest types

  • Understanding the focal bird species within the guide and their habitat needs

  • Recognizing key trees, understory plants, and structural diversity that support birds

  • Applying bird-friendly forestry practices to both rural and urban forests

No prior experience in birding or forestry is needed. Bring your curiosity, a willingness to share, and binoculars if you have them.

Coffee and pastries will be provided for early arrivals. We look forward to seeing you in October.
