Event Date: Thursday, September 10, 2026 – 8:00am to 12:00pm

Event address: Elijah Bristow State Park, Wheeler Rd, Dexter, OR 97431

This event will gather landowners, land managers, and bird enthusiasts to explore practical ways to enhance bird habitat in Oregon’s forests.

Lauren Grand, Associate Professor of Practice at Oregon State University, Katie McInnis, Staff Veterinarian at the Cascades Raptor Center, and Chanda Littlefield, PNW Region Coordinator at the Forest Stewards Guild, will guide discussions on bird-friendly forest management. We will walk through the Forestry for the Birds Western Oregon Guide (included with the registration fee), applying its principles to the park's landscape.

This workshop welcomes landowners, HOA and community managers, park stewards, foresters, natural resource professionals, and community members. Key topics will include:

  • Identifying and assessing bird habitat in various forest types

  • Understanding the focal bird species within the guide and their habitat needs

  • Recognizing key trees, understory plants, and structural diversity that support birds

  • Applying bird-friendly forestry practices to rural forests

No prior experience in birding or forestry is needed. Bring your curiosity, a willingness to share, and binoculars if you have them.
