Join us for an exciting multi-stop tour that highlights three decades of collaborative ash stewardship and emerald ash borer (EAB) response between the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at Brasher State Forest. This SAP-Ne Demonstration Site Field Tour will begin at the Brasher Falls Maintenance Center before caravanning to two more field sites. This is a great opportunity to experience 30 years of leadership, research, and progress in sustaining ash on the landscape!
About SAP-Ne Demonstration Sites:
Our demonstration sites serve as forest classrooms where practitioners and stewards can see firsthand the positive outcomes of thoughtful ash management. Learn more about our demonstration site network here.
Our field tour will:
- Showcase the significant impacts of three decades of innovative stewardship and research on black ash and EAB response
- Highlight a model for effective ash stewardship, inclusion of Indigenous cultural values, and proactive forest pest management
- Visit recent silvicultural treatments and observe an insecticide injection demonstrationto preserve ash on the landscape
- Discuss black ash as an ecological and cultural keystone species
- Facilitate meaningful discussion, casual networking, and lunch with others dedicated to the future of ash
